Age Rating Information
Age Rating Information
Effective: 23 October 2026 · Last updated: 23 October 2026
Hold Still is released on the App Store with a 17+ age rating. Apple introduced a new age rating scale with iOS 26; the same rating is displayed as 16+ on the new scale. Both labels point to the same content tier. This page sets out our answers to Apple's age rating questionnaire, for parents, guardians and App Review reference.
1. Questionnaire answers
- In-app controls: None. No parental controls, no age assurance mechanism, no built-in gating.
- Features: None. No unrestricted web access, no user generated content, no social media, no in-app messaging, no advertising, no sign-in.
- Mature themes: Frequent. Horror and fear themes and mature, suggestive themes run through the whole story: a homicide, missing people, fear, betrayal, and a mechanism nobody wants to name out loud.
- Medical or health: None. No medical or treatment information, no wellness topics.
- Sexual content or nudity: None. There is none.
- Violence: Infrequent. A homicide is the catalyst, but the act itself is never shown on screen and there is no gore.
- Chance-based activities: None. No gambling, no simulated gambling, no loot boxes, no contests.
2. Profanity
There is occasional profanity in the dialogue. The Cantonese voice cast keeps the original tone: nothing is sanitised, nothing is added.
3. Content notes
- Depicts a homicide, a death and a missing person;
- Mature themes: fear, betrayal, survival pressure;
- Violence is implied rather than shown — no gore, no graphic wounds;
- Hand-drawn character portraits and backgrounds;
- Cantonese voice acting with optional English subtitles; the dialogue uses colloquial Cantonese, including swearing and slang.
4. Who it suits
This game is not suitable for anyone under 17. There is no gore on screen, but the adult themes and psychological pressure are heavy, and younger readers may find it uncomfortable.
